Art In Montclair: 'Black Wall Street: A Case for Reparations'
Ajamu Kojo's "Black Wall Street: A Case for Reparations" will be on display at the George Segal Gallery at Montclair State University.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — Ajamu Kojo’s "Black Wall Street: A Case for Reparations" will be on display at the George Segal Gallery at Montclair State University until April 23.
According to a news release, Kojo’s first solo museum exhibition is an ongoing series of large-scale paintings that capture the imagined lives of Black professionals in the Greenwood District before the 1921 Tulsa, Oklahoma race massacre. The portraits present a spiritually uplifting dedication to the people who called Greenwood their home over a century ago.
An opening reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 at the George Segal Gallery. Kojo will also join Galleries Director Megan Austi and Montclair State University faculty in a panel discussion titled, “Black Wall Street: A Model for Greatness” on Feb. 22 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
