BMW Carjacked On Prospect Avenue In Montclair

Montclair police are seeking a man who allegedly robbed a victim of his BMW in broad daylight.

Montclair police are seeking a man who allegedly robbed a victim of his BMW in broad daylight near the intersection of Prospect and Claremont avenues.

The carjacking allegedly took place around 1:40 p.m. on Monday. The victim told police that as he was walking to his car – a black, BMW 650i – a man approached him and gestured that he had a weapon in his waistband.

The suspect then demanded the keys to the BMW, got into the car and fled southbound.

According to Montclair police, the suspect may have arrived at the scene in a silver Mercedes, which fled the area and eventually struck a street sign on Harrison Avenue, flattening its tire and disabling the vehicle.

Police found the Mercedes – which was later discovered to be stolen out of Saddlebrook - unoccupied in the southern portion of Montclair.

No injuries were reported.

According to police, the suspect was described as a black male, about 25 to 35-years-old and 5 foot 10 inches with a slim build.
