Yoga in Paradise…Part II on Yoga Getaways
How about taking your yoga & meditation practice to the beaches of Mexico's Los Cabos?

Yes, it’s that time of year again; cold, wind, snow, rain, slush, need I say more? If you love to ski you may be in seventh heaven right now, but if not (or even if you do) sandy beaches may be calling you. Here’s yet another option for your yoga practice that came to my attention the other day: a week at the Westin Resort and Spa in Los Cabos, Mexico, hosted by yoga teachers Susan Morton (Center Founder & Director), Susan Wilson and Colleen Briscoe of the Yoga & Meditation Center of Montclair. The trip takes place February 11 to 18.
What’s it like at the Westin Resort and Spa Los Cabos? According to Susan Morton, who took a group of 18 to this location last year as well, the location was chosen for its peaceful, spacious, natural beauty. Says Susan, “This award-winning resort was on the cover of Architectural Digest because of its design that is so respectful of the environment. The nearest hotel is two miles away, so there is a sense of isolation and privacy. It never feels crowded. It has the spiritual vibrations of Sedona, and is set amongst huge red and pink rocks and on the beach on the Sea of Cortez, where whales come to have their babies and we are entertained watching mothers and babies spouting and breaching not far from the beach.” Each day, participants enjoy meditation at sunrise, followed by a yoga class against the backdrop of a stunning blue sky and ocean waves. Yamuna Body Rolling classes are held in the late afternoon. (See my earlier on this wonderful practice). A Yoga Nidra session will be offered one evening and, on another, a "chanting through the chakras" class. Right now the ratio of teachers to students is 1 to 4, ensuring lots of individual attention. Therapeutic yoga is also available by appointment.
The rooms (with balcony over looking the ocean), food, and staff are wonderful, Susan adds. (Full breakfast daily and a welcoming celebration dinner included). You can also use the Westin Workout Fitness Center during your stay, head for the putting green or tennis courts, or stroll the beaches. For the adventurous, there are desert tours, diving, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing, whale watching, horseback riding, and more. The area also offers excellent restaurants, shops, and galleries in San Jose del Cabo and in Cabo San Lucas. And there’s always the option of relaxing, breathing, and just being in the now.

Anyone who is interested in joining this wonderful yoga getaway should contact Susan Morton at info@yogainmontclair.com or at yogawithsusan@mac.com. Susan herself is already ‘chillin’ in Mexico, but she’ll be happy to talk by phone once you’ve made email contact. There are still a few spaces left, so don’t delay! Think sand, sun, yoga, water, warmth and inner peace. What’s not to like?
