Busting Traffic In Montclair

Traffic isn’t a unique problem to Montclair… but it takes unique Montclair solutions to fix it.
In an effort to improve the safety and flow of traffic, the township undertook several initiatives last year, according to the 2014 Annual Report from the Montclair Police Department.
- A new traffic signal was installed at Bloomfield Avenue and Lloyd Road (MKA Upper School)
- A new four-way stop sign was installed at Walnut Street and North Fullerton Avenue
- Crossing and traffic studies were conducted at Pine Street and Claremont Avenue
- Designated spaces were set up for electric vehicle charging stations in certain municipal lots
- An ordinance establishing designated loading zones was created
- A proposal was made for a townwide re-evaluation of restricted parking on narrow streets
- A proposal was made for a townwide re-evaluation of “No Right On Red” signs
- A resolution was passed by the town approving the Montclair Sign Program which covered the fabrication and installation of new pedestrian and vehicular warning signs
- The times for a “No Turn On Red” sign at Maple Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue were adjusted to 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- A variable message sign was used throughout the township to display various speed calming and traffic messages
- Speed Sentry signs were placed throughout town to address potential speeding areas
- Railroad safety measures and signage were improved, and rail safety education was coordinated
- A proposal was made to change the light pattern at North/South Fullerton and Bloomfield avenues
