Economist Heather McGhee will be talking with legendary civil rights attorney Michelle Alexander ("The New Jim Crow") about McGhee’s landmark bestseller, “The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs All of Us and How We Can Prosper Together.” Thanks to the generosity of our co-sponsor, Partners for Health Foundation, the first 100 guests to enter the event will receive a free copy of the book.
“[‘The Sum of Us’ is] stunning, sobering…hopeful…Abandoning the zero-sum thinking at the heart of U.S. history — which pits racial groups against one another, as if one can win only if others lose — will unlock the benefits of social cooperation. The result can be a ‘solidarity dividend’ that easily outweighs the meager rations of racist division and purely psychic wages.”—The Washington Post.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and book sales and signing with Watchung Booksellers.
