MONTCLAIR, NJ — A car theft suspect refused to stop for a Montclair police officer last week, setting off a car chase that ended in East Orange, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, the theft took place on Nov. 9. The victim told officers that she left her 2017 Ford Explorer running in the area of Forest Street and Walnut Street while she ran into a nearby store.

“A responding officer observed the vehicle on South Fullerton Avenue as it crossed over Bloomfield Avenue. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle however the suspect refused to stop. The vehicle was pursued into East Orange before Montclair officers voluntarily terminated the pursuit.”

The vehicle contained $1,200 and a silver laptop computer, police said.
