Chinese Students Tour Montclair Police Department

Students learn about the role of law enforcement in American society

On Thursday, March 5, the Montclair Police Department conducted a tour of their headquarters on Bloomfield Avenue for twelve students from various universities in China.

The students were spending two weeks studying abroad to complete an assignment for a sociology class, on the role of American law enforcement and police in modern American society, according to a release.

The tour began with the students meeting and speaking with Montclair Police Deputy Chief Conforti. The deputy chief explained the hierarchy of the police department and what the police do in addition to fighting crime. Officers then escorted the students through the various units and bureaus in police headquarters, and introduced them to officers, detectives, and supervisors of the department including the Juvenile Aid Bureau, Detective Bureau, Records and Identification Bureau, Uniform Division, Traffic Bureau, Patrol Bureau and the Community Service Unit. Students also got a tour of the MPD cellblock, a fingerprinting demonstration and a look inside several police vehicles.
