The Montclair-based nonprofit provides counseling services to Essex County for drug and alcohol abuse, family crises and AIDS.

Montclair, NJ – COPE, a Montclair-based nonprofit agency that provides crisis services to Essex County – may be expanding its presence in North Jersey with a new site in Bloomfield.

According to an agency news release, during a March 16 meeting, the COPE Board of Trustees authorized Executive Director Sue Seidenfeld to explore an additional site in Bloomfield.

If contract approval and site renovation proceed on schedule, COPE will open its new center by early summer, the release stated.

According to its website, COPE’s counselors work in the areas of “drug and alcohol abuse, family crises, problems in daily living and AIDS.”

“With heroin-related and prescription drug overdoses at an all-time high — New Jersey saw nearly 800 heroin-related deaths in 2014 alone, a 124% increase since 2010 according to the New Jersey Medical Examiner — COPE is poised to help those in Essex County who are affected, including at-risk youth, families and communities,” President of the COPE Board of Trustees Bruce Stransky stated in a release.
