MONTCLAIR, NJ — Local, county and state police broke up a house party that attracted hundreds of people in Montclair last weekend, authorities said.

According to the Montclair Police Department, several residents of Christopher Street called police headquarters on Friday to report a large house party.

When officers first arrived, they cleared the area of a “small” gathering. But later that night around 10:19 p.m., police returned to find that the crowd had grown to about 200 to 300 people, authorities said.

Montclair police called for mutual aid to clear the area, getting a hand from their peers in Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Cedar Grove, Verona and Nutley. Police from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department and the NJ State Police also helped to disperse people from the party.

“There were no arrests made or citations issued, as it appears the large crowd that arrived later were not known to the homeowners,” Montclair police said.
