The Wellmont Theater offered the following information about Torres:

“Torres, a staple in Cuban music for decades, is catalogued as a leading vocalist, composer and producer. Torres emerged as a singer in his hometown in the 1990s, entering the scene with the Camagüey group Costa Sur. During his tenure with Costa Sur, music director David Calzado, another prominent figure in the evolution of modern Cuban music, offered Torres a spot in his well-known group, Charanga Habanera. The vocalist spent eight years with Charanga, beginning in 2001, and performed duets with scores of hit-makers. As a part of Calzado’s group, Torres recorded several albums and sang, “Tiene de Cuba, tiene mela’o” and “Gozando y a lo Cubano.” Torres soon branched out to solo work. By 2014, he became a well-regarded composer. “Traidora” is perhaps the finest example: The tune found international fame performed by Marc Anthony and Gente de Zona (355 million YouTube hits as of this writing). Torres also broke out with “Para que un día vuelvas,” a duet that he shares with Pablo Milanés. The track has 12 million YouTube views and counting. By 2016, and with international fame, Torres signed with Marc Anthony’s production company and talent agency Magnus Media. Since, Torres has focused on completing studio albums – mainly duets with prominent figures (e.g., Pablo Milanés, Descemer Bueno and Kelvis Ochoa and Gilberto Santa Rosa). His most recent work is entitled “Toda una vida.”

Torres takes the stage in Montclair at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5. Doors open at 7 p.m.
