Declutter Your Bookshelves: Montclair Library Taking Donations Ahead Of Fall Sale

Donated items will be sold at the library's upcoming book sale.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The following news release comes courtesy of the Montclair Public Library. Find out how to post announcements or events to your local Patch site.

The Montclair Public Library and the Montclair Public Library Foundation are inviting local residents to declutter their bookshelves and support the library through its upcoming Book Drive and Book Sale fundraiser.

The library will accept gently used books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays during its Book Drive from October 11 to 12. Donated items will be sorted and sold at the Book Sale, scheduled for October 22 to 24, with all proceeds directly funding library initiatives including programming, summer reading, and hot spots.

“Books have a wonderful way of bringing people together, and this event brings together everything we love about our Library community—generosity, discovery, and a shared love of reading,” said Mary Packer, Executive Director of the Montclair Public Library Foundation. “We hope the community will join us by donating books, volunteering, and coming out to shop the sale.”

Book Drive Details

  • Dates: Sunday, October 11, 1 to 6 p.m. and Monday, October 12, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Drop-off Location: Montclair Public Library Main Branch, 50 South Fullerton Avenue
  • Accepted Items: Hardcover and softcover books (adult and children, English and other languages, fiction and nonfiction), DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, and audio book CDs, in their original printed jackets or cases.
  • Items Not Accepted: Books that are moldy, heavily underlined, or otherwise unsuitable for sale. Encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest Condensed books (or similar), Textbooks, AAA travel guides or maps, Travel guides that are more than 3-4 years old (unless they are very old), Puzzles or board games, Magazines, VHS tapes (video tapes), Music cassettes, 78’s, or self-recorded media, Greeting cards or postcards.

    • Regular Sale Days: Thursday, October 22, noon to 8 p.m. and Friday, October 23, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Bag Sale Day: Saturday, October 24, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Location: Montclair Public Library Main Branch Auditorium, 50 South Fullerton Avenue
  • Pricing:
    • Coffee table / Art books: $4
    • Adult hardcovers: $3
    • Adult paperback: $1
    • Adult mass market: 2/$1
    • Children’s hardcovers: $2
    • Children’s paperback: 2/$1
    • DVDs/Blu-rays/Audiobooks/CDs: $2
    • BAG DAY: fill a bag for $10

"This event is all about celebrating the fun of reading," said Library Director Radwa Ali. "From clearing off your shelves at home to discovering a bargain on a book you've always wanted to read, it’s a win-win for everyone involved while helping raise money for the library.”
