Adult Dodgeball League In Montclair? Who Knew?
The Killers include a dynamic group of mostly 40-somethings
Once a week, a dynamic group of mostly 40-somethings who call themselves "The Killers" gets together for the five D's of dodgeball: dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge again.
The Killers is just one team that is part of a little-known ZogSports' Dodgeball League that is growing in popularity around Montclair.

"We are 12 players who enjoy getting out, getting some exercise, and socializing," said team captain Dan Scarfo. "We do it for the fun of it. We are not that competitive. However, we do usually win the best sportsmanship award."
Members admit that this team of adventurous Montclair moms and dads does, quite often, "get killed." But the team also occasionally wins and it did indeed come out on top at its last game of the season on Wednesday evening.

According to ZogSports, the league gives players the chance to relive their gym class memories. The rules say that it's six-on-six, although a team is allowed to play with four to reduce forfeits. When there are six on the court, the team must include at least two women.
Each "match" is round-robin with four games against two opponents. The league keeps it exciting for everyone on the team through its four divisions (Players, Sorta Players, Casual, and Extremely Casual). And a word of advice for all team members: Make nice with that opponent you pelted with the ball at organized happy hours that take place after each game!

The spring season starts on March 12. Games are played at Immaculate Conception once a week. As Scarfo always says, "if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball."
