Economic Downturn? Apparently Not in Upper Montclair
Annual sidewalk sale is buzzing with people looking for bargains.
While the economy stagnates across the country, a walk around the Upper Montclair Sidewalk Sale on Saturday morning showed that there's still a lot of business being conducted—at least in this neighborhood.
Carrie Babcock, co-owner of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio, said she's about to launch a new series of children's programs, everythihng from ballroom to tap.
"Business has been really good," said Babcock, as she handed out coupons for $10 classes.

Carol Jefferjee, owner of Jafajems, opened the doors for the first time to her new store, also on Valley Road, called Fancy That.
The store features items from Dylan's Candy Bar and MacKenzie-Childs.

"Lots of people are coming in," she said.
A few doors down, Jennifer Snyder, who plans to open a new bakery called Blue Daisy in October, was handing out samples of her cupcakes.
She said she'll have lots of goodies for sale at the store—and lots of goodies available for pre-ordering.
Elaine Sinisi, owner of the Little Shoebox, said her store is now selling Ugg boots, as well as Hunter boots, in addition to many other brands.
Also doing a good business on Saturday was the recently opened Art Gallery and Framing shope as well as with its wonderful array of chocolate treats and gift items—including many for Halloween.
About to celebrate its first anniversary next week is the delicious Four Seasons Kebab House—which also delivers.
All in all, Saturday was a gorgeous morning for witnessing the tenor of a neighborhood that continues to evolve.
