Edgemont Memorial Park Bridge Closed In Montclair; Damaged In Ida

"In the interest of the safety of park visitors, the bridge is currently barricaded and closed to pedestrian traffic," officials said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair officials have closed the Edgemont Memorial Park bridge due to storm damage it took during Hurricane Ida, with plans to complete repairs by the spring of 2022.

According to a municipal advisory, damage to the bridge – which is adjacent to the Shelter House – includes an “unsafe incline” forming between its walking surface and the park paths.

“In the interest of the safety of park visitors, the bridge is currently barricaded and closed to pedestrian traffic,” officials said.

As a temporary measure to allow use of the bridge, asphalt will be put on top of the structure later this fall to eliminate the incline. A permanent repair to the bridge or, if needed, its replacement, is expected to be completed in the spring of 2022.
