Essex County To Hold 2016 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
Environmentally conscious Essex County residents can safely dispose of their hazardous household waste on Oct. 1.
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Environmentally conscious Essex County residents can safely dispose of their hazardous household waste on October 1.
According to the Essex County Utilities Authority, a free “Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day” will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 125 Fairview Avenue (next to the Old Hospital Center) in Cedar Grove.
Acceptable materials include pesticides and herbicides, automotive fluids (antifreeze, motor oil,steering fluids, etc.), gasoline/kerosene, paint thinners and solvents, household cleaning fluids, oil based paints and stains, darkroom/photographic chemicals, car batteries, chemistry sets, driveway sealer, fire extinguishers (home), propane tanks, aerosol spray paints, pool chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts, nicad/rechargeable batteries and mercury and products containing mercury.

Materials that will not be accepted include latex paint, unlabeled or unidentified materials, asbestos, regulated medical waste or infectious waste, commercial or industrial waste, empty containers, explosives, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms and household batteries.
