GuGa presents
THE CAFÉ SERIES :: LUV1
JULY 5TH 2012
7:00-10:00PM
at the READ EYE CAFÉ
94 WALNUT STREET, MONTCLAIR NJ
EXHIBIT RUNS FROM JULY 5TH TILL JULY 31ST
The Red Eye Café is the newest addition to the eclectic melting-pot of food, art and culture that is already thriving in Montclair, NJ. It’s subway tiled walls, exceptional food and life-restoring coffee are the perfect backdrop for a series of accessible, yet exceptional art exhibits. Like the coffee houses of old where “HOWL” could be heard on the lips of aspiring poets or the dynamic conversations about content over technique by emerging artists, the RED EYE evokes that same quality as a hot house of expression and individuality in the arms of a welcoming community.
To that end, Guerilla Galleries is proud to present the CAFÉ SERIES hosted by the RED EYE CAFE. Monthly solo exhibits of both emerging and established artists working in a myriad of disciplines, styles and mind-sets displayed before a hungry audience for both incredible food and stimulating art.
The first exhibit in the series is the work of LUV1
Luv One is a street artist and aerosol muralist from New Jersey. Born outside Philadelphia and raised in the Quad Cities and Chicago, he has lived on the East Coast for most of his adult life. A graduate of SVA’s Illustration Department, and member of Albus Cavus and S.A.G.E. Artist Collectives. Luv One’s murals can be seen across New Jersey, also in Yonkers, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Washington, DC, and Chicago, IL. His art has been shown in numerous Galleries across the US, to mention a few the Micro Museum in Brooklyn, NY, Flat Iron Building and Art Gallery Kafe in Chicago, IL,
Guerilla Gallery in Newark, NJ and Gallery 125 in Trenton, NJ.
Known for his illustrative style in portraiture and interlacing bold colorful designs, Luv draws inspiration from the Celtic art of the monks of Iona and other Arabesque ornamentation, folk art from around the world, the Expressionists of the 20th Century, and many contemporary street and aerosol artists.
About Guerilla Galleries
Christine Wagner and Stan Sudol, the directors of Guerilla Galleries (GuGa) form a partnership comprised of artistic dedication, strong work ethics and an altruistic belief that creation is a necessary component of the human spirit. They are approaching the gallery in a new fashion by taking the underground art scene and making it far more accessible, and hopefully beneficial, for both artist and community.
GuGa was an idea born of artists who wished to exhibit their own art as well as that of other emerging artists, in a new and innovative manner. They hope to slowly and steadfastly promote artistic expression and expansion wherever they are welcome and supported to do so. They work to create, market and execute high impact exhibitions and provide a venue for burgeoning new talents to showcase their creativity and abilities.
