As promised back in November, Blu and Next Door, Zod Arifai's highly praised Montclair restaurants, reopened on schedule with marvelous new menus and a refreshed new look.
The restaurants closed briefly while the talented chef/owner focused on opening his latest venture, daryl -- the sleek, sophisticated restaurant at The Heldrich Hotel in New Brunswick.

Blu and Next Door have roared back to life with the innovative, improvisational, world-class cuisine that consistently lands them on critics' and guests' "Top Restaurants" lists.
"Originally, I thought of Next Door as a neighborhood cafe," Zod notes. "Now it's more mature and seasoned, with new tables and chairs, a warm chocolate brown & beige color palette, and a menu to match."

Menu changes at Next Door include the addition of many Blu favorites, such as Tuna Tartare w/Avocado+Spicy Ginger Sauce, Seafood Dumplings in Spicy Coconut Broth, and Fettuccine w/Wild Mushrooms+Pecorino Romano.

"It was time for me to take Blu to the next level," reports Zod. "We've been open for six years, and I thrive on challenging myself." That's why the menu changes daily -- he's serving steak for the first time ever -- and his brilliantly eclectic seven-course Tasting Menu can look and taste different from one night to the next.
What new dishes are not-to-be-missed? Octopus w/Chickpeas, Raisins+Roasted Pepper, for starters; followed by Fettuccine w/Beef Short Rib Ragù+Caramelized Onions and Skate w/Cauliflower+Asparagus in a Truffle Broth!
