
To celebrate Montclair Jazz Month, the Montclair Public Library is pleased to present two rare Jazz films hosted by Professor Robert S. Gold on Tuesday evenings at 7pm. November 15: Mel Torme in Concert and November 29: A Great Day in Harlem. Mr. Gold will introduce each film and then conduct a Q and A at the conclusion of the screening.
Mel Torme in Concert November 15
Mr.Gold will screen two clips of Mel Torme in concert. These rare films are from Mr. Gold’s personal archive. One 30 minutes long, includes Mel Davis’ Big Band; and the second 40 minutes long, Torme is backed by big a band that includes John Campbell, Jay Leonhart circa 1990.

Bob is a long time Montclair resident who is a leading expert in the History of Jazz. He has published two books, A Jazz Lexicon and Jazz Talk as well as many signed articles for the Encyclopedia of World Biography on Count Basie, Miles Davis, Benny Goodman and Fats Waller, to name a few. For Jersey Jazz magazine he has written numerous articles. He is the Jazz Consultant for the Harvard Dictionary of Music
While being an important Jazz scholar, Mr. Gold is Professor Emeritus from New Jersey City University and has been an adjunct at Montclair State University.
