The second Summer Concert of the Montclair Community Band
will be performed on Tuesday, July 10th. The concert, which will begin at 7:30
pm, will be presented at the Montclair
High School on Chestnut Street in Montclair. The concert will be held in the front lawn of
the Montclair High School and audience members are encouraged to bring chairs
or blankets. There is no admission charge for this concert
and tickets are not needed. In case of
rain, the concert will be moved into the Montclair High School Auditorium,
which is just around the corner from the front of the high school on Park
Street. Both venues have barrier-free access and there is plenty of free
parking.
Band director Jim Wasko has prepared a program for this
concert which he has titled “On With the Show”.
This concert will include a variety of upbeat music from many eras. The
concert will open with ‘America the Beautiful’, followed by a medley, “Opening
Night on Broadway”. Other theatrical show music will include selections from
“Guys and Dolls”, “Kiss Me Kate” and “The Producers”. Music from the “Wizard of
Oz”, “Grease” and the popular “Great Themes from Great Italian Movies” will
highlight cinematic music. The
Community Band Brass Ensemble will perform a few selections, and, as always,
the concert will conclude with the playing of our national march, “The Stars and Stripes Forever”.
The Montclair Community Band is a 50 member concert band
comprised of adults from Montclair
and the surrounding communities, and is sponsored by the Montclair Department
of Recreation and Cultural Affairs. The
final Summer Concert of the 2012 season, featuring music commemorating the
Summer Olympics in London will be held on Tuesday, July 24th at 7:30 pm at
Montclair High School. The Community
band will begin rehearsals for the 2012-2013 season in September.
