The Strawbs, with special guest John Wesley Harding, to usher in Outpost's 25th anniversary season

MONTCLAIR, N.J., Aug. 22, 2012 -- The Outpost in the Burbs today announced that the Strawbs and special guest John Wesley Harding will lead off the organization’s 25th anniversary season at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 67 Church St., Montclair. Tickets are $28 in advance, $32 day of show. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

An English band founded in 1964, the Strawbs began as a bluegrass group but moved on to other styles such as folk rock, glam rock and progressive rock. They are best known for their hit “Part of the Union,” which reached No. 2 in the U.K. charts in 1973. They will perform an acoustic set at the Outpost.

John Wesley Harding, whose real name is Wesley Stace, is a folk/pop singer-songwriter and author of three novels. A native of England, he has lived for more than 20 years in Philadelphia.

Besides promoting and staffing concerts, Outpost volunteers -- today there are about 100  -- have donated more than 35,000 hours of their time through programs affiliated with Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, the Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair, the Community Food Bank of N.J., Dress for Success and the soup kitchen run by Outpost volunteers at Christ Episcopal Church in East Orange that feeds some 70 people.
