Every Wednesday Matinee @ MPL: Film Noir in September

On Wednesdays at 2 p.m., Montclair Public Library hosts The Every Wednesday Matinee, a classic film series presented in its auditorium. Below are the film noir titles being screened this September:

Deadline at Dawn (September 7) - Starring Susan Hayward, Bill Williams and Paul Lukas. When a woman he meets is murdered, a soon to be drafted sailor has until dawn to find the killer, aided by a weary dance hall girl. (1946, 83 minutes, B&W)

Dial 1119 (September 14) - Starring Marshall Thompson, Virginia Field and Andrea King. A former mental patient murders a bus driver, then takes refuge in a bar, where he holds the patrons hostage. (1950, 75 minutes, B&W)

The Big Sleep (September 21) - Starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and John Ridgely. Private detective Philip Marlowe is hired by a rich family. Before the complex case is over, he's seen murder, blackmail, and what might be love. (1946, 114 minutes, B&W)

This Gun for Hire (September 28) - Starring Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake and Robert Preston. When assassin Philip Raven shoots a blackmailer and his beautiful female companion dead, he is paid off in marked bills by his treasonous employer who is working with foreign spies. (1942, 81 minutes, B&W)
