Extra Chlorine In Montclair Water; 'Safe To Drink' Despite Odor
Montclair Officials: Chlorine was added to water after an algae bloom in the NJDWSC's reservoir. Water should normalize in 24 hours.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair is receiving water with a “higher that normal chlorine content,” but the issue is expected to normalize within 24 hours, officials announced Thursday.
Montclair town officials issued the following advisory at 1:19 p.m. on April 25:
“Yesterday the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission reported algae bloom in their reservoir. To keep reservoir water potable, additional chlorine was added, causing a change in taste and odor but maintaining potability – the water is safe to drink. At this time, Montclair is still receiving water with higher than normal chlorine content. The chlorinated water will have to work its way through the water distribution system before it will be back to normal. Water should normalize within 24 hours.”
No additional information was immediately available.
