Fatal Scooter Crash In Montclair Claims Verona Resident's Life

A scooter and a truck collided on Bloomfield Avenue. No charges have been filed as of Monday evening, Essex County prosecutors said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ – A Verona resident died in a fatal crash that took place in Montclair on Monday, authorities said.

A scooter collided with a truck on the 300-block of Bloomfield Avenue at 1:44 p.m., according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Montclair Police Department.

The driver of the scooter – later identified as Aaron Minkov, 41, of Verona –was pronounced dead at 2 p.m.

No charges have been filed as of Monday evening, prosecutors said.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau is investigating the crash. Authorities said that anyone with information can contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office tips line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1- 877-847-7432.

Montclair 3rd Ward Councilor Lori Price Abrams issued a statement of condolence to Minkov’s family.

“I am pained about the terrible accident yesterday on Bloomfield Avenue which took the life of a man on a scooter and offer my deep condolences to the family of Mr. Minkov, as well as concern for the driver of the truck in the center of our busy downtown,” Price Abrams said.

She continued:

“I am heartened to know that the township is underway in the creation of a framework of solutions. I joined in sponsoring a resolution to establish the Vision Zero Task Force with broad representation across a spectrum of expertise and experience, and with the goal to study and implement policies to get to zero fatalities and serious accidents by 2028. We can’t get this done fast enough.”
