A Montclair police officer fired in 2013 must be reinstated and given $270,000 in back pay, a Superior Court judge ruled.

Montclair, NJ – A Montclair police officer fired in 2013 must be reinstated and given $270,000 in back pay, a Superior Court judge ruled on Monday.

Former Montclair officer Joselito Nebiar – who was suspended and terminated after his arrest for an alleged domestic abuse incident – filed a lawsuit against the township last year.

In the lawsuit, Nebiar charged that the township didn’t follow proper legal protocol when it dismissed him in the wake of the alleged domestic abuse.

Nebiar was dismissed more than a year after the alleged victim recanted her claims and an Essex County grand jury declined to issue charges, NJ.com reported.
