First ‘Latino Heritage Month’ Coming To Montclair For 2022

A Montclair group is raising awareness of the Latino community's contributions to the township with a series of heritage month festivities.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Montclair group is planning to raise awareness of the Latino community’s contributions to the township with a series of heritage month festivities.

Latinos of Montclair will host a variety of events starting on Sept. 9 and running through Oct. 15. Learn more here.

According to a news release from organizers, the celebration will include family events at Watchung Booksellers, a Latin dance night fundraiser at Porta Montclair, and an American Latino film series in partnership with Montclair Film. The festivities will culminate with an inaugural Latino Heritage Celebration at the Montclair Art Museum, which will put the spotlight on Latin music, art and culture.

“The Latino community in Montclair is growing, and we want to promote greater visibility by uniting it,” said the group’s president, Marcia Almeida.

“Our desire is to advance and promote inclusiveness for all communities, especially those of multi-ethnic and racial backgrounds, while highlighting Latino culture from El Barrio to Calle Ocho to Patagonia to Rio de Janeiro to Quito and everywhere in between.”
