Obit: Founder of Montclair’s Murph’s Sports Shop Has Died

Since anyone can remember, Murph's Sports Shop has been a staple in Upper Montclair, offering everything a sports enthusiast could possibly need.

Now, the founder of Murph's at 629 Valley Road, Richard "Dick" Murphy, a resident of Glen Ridge, has died at the age of 89, on Sept. 26.

Not only was he a World War II veteran, but he owned Murph's until his retiremenet in 2001.

The family will be at Caggianos Funeral Home, 62 Grove Street, from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28, and the funeral mass is scheduled Thursday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception in Montclair.
