MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair town officials are asking for the public’s help finding the person or persons who fatally injured a fox with an illegal trap, a report says.

The fox was discovered on Tuesday with a compound leg fracture from a coil-spring trap, which is banned in New Jersey. Animal control officers took it to a nearby animal hospital, where it was euthanized due to its injuries, Baristanet.com reported.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Montclair town officials said that anyone with information about the “heinous act” can contact the Montclair Police Department at police@montclairusa.org or 973-744-1234.
