Fraud Prevention For Seniors: Rep. Sherrill To Hold Town Hall In NJ-11

NEW JERSEY — U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey’s 11th District will hold a “Senior Telephone Town Hall on Fraud and Scam Prevention” at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

According to a news release from Sherrill, a panel of experts will speak at the town hall, including Assistant Special Agent in Charge Robert Hernandez and Technical Staff Assistant Scott Keenan at the United States Secret Service; Acting Director of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Cari Fais; and Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens.

Sherrill’s office said:

“The panel will help answer questions directly from residents on common phone and cyber scams and share tips on protecting yourself from fraud. People of all age groups are welcome to listen, as anyone can be targeted by scammers. However, this is a concern that the Congresswoman often hears specifically from older people in the community. Consumer Affairs finds that seniors lose over $3 billion each year to fraud.”

• Morris – Boonton, Boonton Township, Butler, Chatham, Chatham Township, Denville, Dover, East Hanover, Florham Park, Hanover, Harding, Jefferson, Kinnelon, Lincoln Park, Madison, Mendham Twp (part), Montville, Morris Plains, Morris Township, Morristown Town, Mountain Lakes, Parsippany-Troy Hills, Pequannock, Randolph, Riverdale, Rockaway, Rockaway Township, Victory Gardens
• Passaic – Little Falls, Totowa, Wayne (part), Woodland Park
