‘George To The Rescue’ Is Back, With Montclair Star At Helm

MONTCLAIR, NJ — “George to the Rescue” is back, and so is its eponymous star, George Oliphant.

Oliphant, who lives in Montclair, hosts the Emmy Award-winning home renovation show, which returned for a new season on March 26.

Produced by LXTV, the weekly show launched in 2010, with nearly 140 episodes airing to date. The series features Oliphant and his team of volunteer contractors and designers taking on perplexing home improvement projects for families facing their own personal challenges within their homes and their daily lives that they can’t address on their own.

In each episode, Oliphant and his team create life-changing, dramatic home transformations that develop before audiences’ eyes. At the end of each episode, Oliphant and his team join with neighbors and the community to welcome each family home to their newly renovated spaces.

Oliphant has also lent a hand on a local level, renovating the dog exercise area in the back of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter in 2019.

“We renovate with a specific purpose – changing lives for the better,” Oliphant said.

“We could never make all of this happen without the contributions of our volunteers,” Oliphant added. “They did more than build rooms; they restored hope.”

Highlights from George to the Rescue’s 13th spring season include:

March 26: Brittany’s Baskets of Hope

George leads a massive basement makeover for Brittany Schiavone, a 32-year-old woman with Down syndrome. Brittany founded “Brittany’s Baskets of Hope”, which provides special care packages for babies born with Down Syndrome. George and his team created a new working space for Brittany’s non-profit operation, perfectly suited for her long-term needs.

April 2: Rebecca’s Reveal

George leads on the largest projects in show history for Rebecca Koltun, paralyzed in a 2021 skiing accident. George and his team completed major interior and exterior accessibility renovations which are improving Rebecca’s quality-of-life.

April 9: Camp A.N.C.H.O.R.

First airing in September, 2021, Camp A.N.C.H.O.R is one of George to the Rescue’s most memorable episodes. George and his team lead a renovation of Camp A.N.C.H.O.R., a recreation center for individuals with disabilities. The renovation included the construction of a new miniature golf course on the site of a former handball court.

April 16: Functional for the Family

George leads a home renovation for a young boy with Down Syndrome, along with his two siblings. The finished project features new play and therapy spaces that can be used by the entire family.

April 23: Gilda’s Club

George leads a large renovation benefitting young children and teenagers affected by cancer. Vibrant lounge spaces will now support the users of Gilda’s Club, named in honor of the legendary Saturday Night Live comedian Gilda Radner.

April 30: Only in America

George leads a challenging basement renovation for the Almanzar family, resulting in a fortified foundation and the elimination of chronic water issues. Victor Almanzar immigrated from the Dominican Republic as a teen and later served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Rebecca Almanzar is a dedicated social worker and together, the couple have four children.

May 7: Boys and Girls

George leads a renovation at the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club. A new teen lounge will benefit patrons of the Club, providing greater functionality for community programs.
