Glen Ridge Parish To Host ‘Prayer Of Peace’ After Charlottesville Tragedy

The St. Francis of Assisi American National Catholic parish is inviting the community to "join in praying for peace" on Aug. 15.

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The St. Francis of Assisi American National Catholic parish is inviting the community to “join in praying for peace” as it celebrates the Feast of the Assumption in light of last weekend’s events in Virginia.

According to a parish news release, the faith community of St. Francis of Assisi American National Catholic parish will gather in prayer for peace during the celebration of the Mass for the Feast of the Assumption, on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m., at the parish church, 195 Ridgewood Avenue in Glen Ridge (Clark Street entrance).

“Our prayer for peace is in response to the increase in the rhetoric of hate and acts of violence in our nation and our world. We are reminded that we are called to be peacemakers and we ask you to please join us as we pray for the courage to take up Christ’s command to proclaim peace.”

The non-Roman Catholic parish serves congregants from various communities in New Jersey, including Montclair, Bloomfield, Oradell, Toms River, Verona, Cedar Grove, Belleville, Glen Ridge, Jersey City and Hoboken.
