Governor Declares State of Emergency as Transportation is Suspended

Governor Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency in New Jersey.  

Patch has received reports that, according to PSEG, about 2,000 people are without power in WO, SO, Livingston, Cedar Grove and Montclair.  

Essex county is coordinating with local emergency personnel county-wide to determine the needs of individual municipalities.  If residents are in need of assistance, the County Office of Emergency Management can be reached at (973) 239-0152.

According to County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr., the Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange, located at 560 Northfield Ave., will be open for people in need of warmth or shelter from the storm.  Montclair residents with storm-related questions are advised to call the Montclair Police Department at 973-744-1234.  

Slammed by the blizzard of 2010, ground transportation has all but come to a standstill tonight and could be affected further on Monday.   According to its website, the DeCamp Bus Company has halted all bus service from New York until further notice and the NJ Transit rail service will operate on what it describes as an enhanced weekend schedule on Monday.
