Grunge Icons Candlebox to Revisit Debut Hits at Wellmont Theater

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – March 26, 2019 – Mainstays of the 1990s grunge movement, Candlebox, will be taking to the stage at New Jersey’s premier concert venue, the Wellmont Theater, on April 19, 2019 to revisit their wildly successful self-titled debut album. In celebration of its 25^th anniversary, the band will be performing all the songs off the album – which is certified 4x platinum and sold over 4 million copies worldwide.

Numerous Candlebox hits, including “Far Behind,” “You” and “Cover Me,” all trace back to this debut. Their standout track, “Far Behind,” reached No. 17 on Billboard’s Hot 100, while the album itself eventually climbed to No. 7 on the charts, where it remained for a stunning 104 weeks.

Emerging from the explosive Seattle grunge movement that captured listeners on the Pacific Coast and then around the world by the mid-’90s, the band syncs with many of grunge’s foremost qualities – distorted electric guitar and angst-filled lyrics – but also challenges its “traditional” core, broadening the sound with blues influences and soft-loud dynamics. Candlebox, alongside bands like Collective Soul, Bush and Live, helped refine the “mutating” grunge sound, making it accessible to mainstream audiences.

Led by powerhouse vocals from singer Kevin Martin, the group went on to influence post-grunge groups and numerous alternative rock subgenres.

The band’s latest studio album, their sixth, “Disappearing in Airports” (2016), explored a new lineup and found the group once again returning to the Billboard 200, thanks to their single, “Vexatious.”

Their recent tour – celebrating the 25^th anniversary of the debut effort – has reminded listeners why Candlebox is, indeed, one of the most important groups of the past 30 years. They will continue to cement their rock legacy as they take the stage at New Jersey’s historic Wellmont Theater on Friday, April 19 at 8 p.m.
