Guided By Voices' Doug Gillard Jams at School of Rock Montclair
Doug Gillard, the lead guitarist for indie rock superstars Guided By Voices, visited School of Rock Montclair to jam with campers.
Doug Gillard, who is the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the influential indie rock band Guided By Voices (GBV), visited School of Rock Montclair on Wednesday, 8/7 to lead a masterclass for the school's themed summer camp "Best of the 90s".
Gillard has been a member of Guided By Voices since 2016, and was also in the band from 1997 through 2004. In between his tenure with GBV, he played guitar for a variety of critically acclaimed alternative and punk bands, including Nada Surf, Death of Samantha, and Cobra Verde.
"The kids totally dug jamming with a global rock star like Doug, and Doug had a blast sharing stories, demonstrating licks and techniques, and checking out their energy and skills," says School of Rock Montclair General Manager Kevin March, who is also the drummer for GBV. "Interacting and learning from top tier pros like Doug gives our summer campers an amazing music education and a fantastic experience that they'll always remember."
