Advocates and volunteers counted the state's homeless population on a single night last winter. Here's how many they found in Montclair.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Advocates and volunteers tallied the state’s homeless population on a single night last winter as part of the annual “point in time count,” finding dozens of people who were experiencing homelessness in Montclair.

On Tuesday, Monarch Housing Associates released the results of the 2022 “point in time count,” an annual effort that compiles a wealth of data about the severity and causes of homelessness in the Garden State. During this year’s count – which took place on the evening of Jan. 25 – a total of 8,754 people across the state were experiencing homelessness, researchers said.

In Montclair, 41 people were counted, which is about 2.2 percent of the county's overall total.
