High School, College Students Hold Anti-ICE Walkouts In Montclair

A large crowd of students at Montclair High School held a walkout on Thursday. Last week, students at Montclair State University walked out.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A large crowd of students at Montclair High School held a walkout on Thursday morning to protest the ongoing federal immigration crackdown.

Students marched to the township municipal building, where they held a rally and chanted slogans like “No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here,” Montclair Local reported.

Others carried signs that read “ICE is not welcome here” and “Skipping our lessons to teach you one,” NorthJersey.com reported.

The high school’s principal said the event was “student-initiated,” although district administrators expected the protest and coordinated with the Montclair Police Department on a safety plan, TAPinto Montclair reported.

High school students aren’t the only youth protesting in Montclair this month.

Last week, students at Montclair State University gathered for an “Abolish ICE” walkout protest, gathering on the lawn outside of Cole Hall, the Montclarion reported.
