Internet trolling takes place on both sides of the blue/red divide in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.

U.S Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, the embattled, veteran GOP lawmaker who has dominated the 11th District for decades, posted a seemingly innocuous offer on his Twitter page on Tuesday afternoon that started a chain reaction of sarcastic responses from his critics.

The Twitter post read:

“Interested in touring sites in Washington DC? Happy to assist, contact my office here: https://frelinghuysen.house.gov/contact-us/

The post pushed the buttons of several of Frelinghuysen’s constituents, many of whom have been hounding him to host a town hall for months only to be stonewalled.

Other commenters blasted Frelinghuysen for his role in the passing of several Trump administration budget cuts and support of its tax reform plan.

Tuesday’s Twitter torrent hasn’t been the first time that the comment section of one of Frelinghuysen’s posts has been hijacked.
