The campaign of Mikie Sherrill gained the support of a high-profile player in the Obama administration: former Vice President Joe Biden.

The Congressional campaign of Mikie Sherrill gained a high-profile supporter on Tuesday: former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.
Biden characterized Sherrill as a voice for the “middle class” in New Jersey’s 11th District, where the U.S. Navy veteran and ex-federal prosecutor is one of the main challengers for soon-to-retire Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen’s seat.
The 11th District encompasses parts of Morris, Essex, Sussex and Passaic counties.

Here’s what Biden had to say about Sherrill:
“From the U.S. Navy to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Mikie Sherrill has always stood up for our country and our values. At a time when so many in our country feel left behind by Washington, we need to send leaders like Mikie to Washington who have proven records of service to others and of getting things done. I know that Mikie Sherrill will fight hard for the interests of the middle class in New Jersey, and will make sure that their voices are heard in the halls of Congress. I am proud to endorse her today.”

Sherrill offered the following words of thanks for Biden:
“Vice President Biden knows exactly what it means to put the interests of our country over partisan politics. Throughout his career, he has worked as an advocate for all Americans. Here in New Jersey, we need representatives with that same sort of dedication to public service focused on moving our country forward. I am ready to serve my country again and the people of New Jersey, and I am honored to have the Vice President’s endorsement.”

“After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1994, Mikie Sherrill spent almost 10 years on active duty in the United States Navy. As a Sea King Helicopter pilot, Mikie flew missions throughout Europe and the Middle East. She worked on the Battle Watch Floor in the European Theater during the Iraq invasion, and served as a Flag Aide to the Deputy Commander of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. After leaving the Navy in 2003, Mikie attended law school, earning a degree from Georgetown University. She worked in private practice and eventually joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey. As an Outreach and Reentry Coordinator, Mikie developed programs to help prevent crime in the community. These programs developed trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve and helped people leaving prison to gain employment, housing and education in order to restart their lives. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Mikie prosecuted federal cases and advised law enforcement on investigations.”
Sherrill holds a bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy, a master’s degree in global history from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a law degree from Georgetown University.
