Labor Day Fire In Montclair Destroys Garage

The blaze was electrical in nature, Montclair Fire Chief says.

A Labor Day fire on Orange Road destroyed a detatched garage and caused a minor injury to a firefighter.

Montclair firefighters responded to the scene of the blaze around 1:10 a.m. on Monday to find the garage “fully involved with fire.”

The flames ravaged the garage and caused the structure to collapse on a car parked inside, and damaged the siding of the home, a fence and another car parked in the driveway, Montclair Fire Chief John Herrmann told Patch.

The fire also damaged some children’s play equipment and patio furniture at the rear of the property, Herrmann added.

One firefighter was treated for a cut below the eye, but none of the residents suffered injury.
