This glistening mid-winter night out on the town, just in time for Valentine’s Day, will be held across from the site of the historic Meadowbrook Ballroom, where the first live broadcast of dance music took place in 1936, and where musicians such as Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Dorsey and Glenn Miller performed. From a few miles further east in Newark, the county seat, stars such as Sarah Vaughn and disc jockey Bill Cook emerged during the 1940s to entertain the nation.

According to Carol Gallentine of Roseland, President of the 100-year-old Essex County NJ Republican Women, ‘our members and friends enjoy a terrific roster of events, from education on the Constitution to candidate nights, hiking and shooting sports. Putting an upbeat dinner-dance on our calendar achieves a long-held goal of mine. We hope Republicans and others who enjoy an old-fashioned, happy, musical evening out will dress to the nines and join us on Saturday, February 12 for a fun evening. My toes are already tapping, and I hope yours will, too.’

Lincoln Day Dinners are held nationwide during February to celebrate the first Republican Party president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.
