Lockdown At Montclair Schools Lifted, No Weapon Found (UPDATED)

A lockdown took place at Montclair High School and Renaissance Middle School on Wednesday, officials said.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — A lockdown took place at Montclair High School and Renaissance Middle School on Wednesday, but has since been lifted, officials said.

Superintendent Nathan Parker issued a statement about the lockdown on Wednesday afternoon, which a school administrator shared with Patch:

"Today, there was a lockdown at Montclair High School due to an alleged report of a student with a weapon. As a precaution, Renaissance also went into lockdown. The Montclair Police Department was immediately notified and the staff and administration acted swiftly to investigate the situation. The Police Department determined that there was no credible threat. The student was identified and apprehended with their belongings. The Montclair Police Department found that the student did not possess a weapon. This incident is still under investigation by the police. We want to thank the MPD and the administration for their actions today. The safety and security of our students and staff are paramount. We appreciate your patience while we actively conducted an investigation in order to provide accurate information."

During the lockdown, students at the high school were unable to be picked up by parents, and students that left campus couldn't return, NJ.com reported.

Security and police were on scene searching the building, Baristanet reported.

The Montclair Police Department released the following statement about the incident on Wednesday afternoon:

"On Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 10:33 a.m., the Montclair Police Department received a call that a Montclair High School student was in possession of a weapon. The school resource officer was immediately notified as well as the Montclair High School administration. Montclair High School was temporarily placed on lockdown, as was nearby Renaissance School due to its close proximity to the high school. Montclair police responded and quickly located the student in question outside of the George Innes School. No weapon was recovered."

Police continued:

"Further investigation revealed two other students with potential involvement in the incident. Those students were identified and once it was determined that there was no longer a threat to the students and staff, the lockdown was lifted. There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. No weapons were recovered and at this time, no arrests have been made. The incident remains under investigation by the Montclair Police Department."
