UPDATE: Montclair 'Luring' Suspect Just An Uber Driver, Cops Say

Montclair police initially said the man told an 11-year-old "it's cold outside" and offered her a ride.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — UPDATE: On Jan. 10, Montclair police issued an update about an alleged luring attempt reported last week. According to police, "through investigation it was determined that this incident was a misunderstanding... an Uber driver was circling the area looking for a scheduled pickup and inquired if the juvenile was his assigned ride." Police released a sketch of a man this weekend who they say tried to lure an 11-year-old girl in New Jersey into his car.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. on Wednesday when an 11-year-old girl was approached by a a man in a vehicle at the corner of Alexander Avenue and Squire Hill Road in Monclair, police said.

This man offered the girl a ride, saying it was "cold outside," police said. When she refused, the man drove off towards Grove Street.

This suspect is described as an Hispanic male, 30-40 years old with a beard. The vehicle is described as a brown newer model SUV .
