ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A Montclair resident with an attempted murder warrant out of New York City was arrested after a traffic stop in Glen Ridge last week, police said.

According to the Glen Ridge Police Department, an officer stopped a vehicle near Ridgewood Avenue and Washington Street at 11:21 p.m. on March 25 for a speeding violation and a defective taillight.

The driver – later identified as Ancelmo Sanchez, 45, of Montclair – couldn’t produce identification and gave the officer multiple spelling variations of his name, authorities said.

The officer eventually matched Sanchez to an active warrant for attempted murder out of New York City that was issued in 2002.

Police arrested Sanchez and charged him with hindering his apprehension and being a fugitive from justice. He was processed and transferred to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark to be extradited to New York City, authorities said.
