Manhole Explosion Rocks Montclair... Again
Subterranean blast knocks out power and stops traffic; Incident is ninth this month.

Manhole covers have exploded in Montclair… again.
According to reports, an explosion happened in a manhole near the intersection of Bloomfield and Glenridge avenues on Monday around 3 p.m., bringing traffic to a halt and knocking out power to several hundred homes in the area.
The incident is the ninth such explosion in the past two weeks. [See related story]

Representatives from PSE&G stated that today’s incident was the result of an electric fault, and that there were no natural gas readings in the area surrounding the blast. The incident is under investigation.
A Montclair Fire Department official previously reported to Patch that an electrical short may have contributed to the explosions on March 10.
