Montclair Election Results: Spiller Is Mayor, See Council Winners

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Montclair's 2020 municipal election results have been certified and the township has a new mayor: Sean Spiller.

Montclair's election was held via mail this year due to the coronavirus crisis. Ballots needed to be postmarked by May 12. There were no in-person polling places.

On May 18, Essex County Clerk Chris Durkin confirmed that the results posted on the county website have been certified.

Councilman Sean Spiller will be the town's new mayor after narrowly defeating Councilwoman Renee Baskerville by a margin of 195 votes.

In Montclair's council races, the following candidates emerged victorious:

• Councilor-At-Large – Peter Yacobellis
• Councilor-At-Large – Bob Russo
• First Ward Councilor – William Hurlock
• Second Ward Councilwoman – Robin Schlager
• Third Ward Councilwoman – Lori Price Abrams
• Fourth Ward Councilor – David Cummings

Here are the certified results for Montclair, according to the Essex County Clerk’s Office.

• Renee Baskerville - 5,250 votes (48.85%)
• Sean Spiller - 5,445 (50.66%)

COUNCIL AT LARGE (voters choose two)

4 of 4 districts reported:

• James Cotter - 4,311 (20.63%)
• Carmel Loughman - 1,587 (7.59%)
• Bob Russo - 4,915 (23.52%)
• Roger Terry - 4,577 (21.9%)
• Peter Yacobellis - 5,472 (26.18%)

1ST WARD (voters choose one)

1 of 1 districts reported:

• John Hearn - 1,241 (42.43%)
• Bill Hurlock - 1,681 (57.47%)

2ND WARD (voters choose one)

1 of 1 districts reported:

• Robin Schlager - 1,763 (57.33%)
• Christine “Chrissy” Thomas - 1,305 (42.44%)

3RD WARD (voters choose one)
