Montclair Animal Shelter's Plea Lights Up Social Media

Can you help find a home for Cinnamon the dog?

An online plea from the Montclair Animal Shelter is creating a social media frenzy, as shelter staff and volunteers desperately seek a new home for one of their foster animals.

According to a Facebook post from the shelter, Cinnamon, a seven-year-old dog who recently won the “Best Kisser” contest at the 2014 Strutt Your Mutt event, is about to lose her current foster home.

As of early Monday afternoon, the shelter’s Facebook post has inspired over 300 “shares” since being put into the public eye on Sunday.

The post states that Cinnamon’s current foster guardians are not able to keep her due to their new landlord’s “No Dogs Allowed” policy, a charge that has incensed many online commenters, who are suggesting that the situation may be in violation of New Jersey tenants’ rights laws.

According to the animal shelter, Cinnamon’s foster guardians originally had until the end of April to find the dog a new home, but that timeline has been moved up to Saturday, March 28.

“This sweet, seven-year-old girl will end up back in the shelter if we do not find her a new foster immediately,” the post stated.

The shelter is requesting that anyone who can help find a new foster or permanent home for Cinnamon contact them through the Montclair Township Animal Shelter Facebook page, via phone at 973-744-8600, or via email at adoptmontclairshelter@gmail.com

Some details about Cinnamon:

  • Was suffering from a torn ACL when she left the shelter (probably no longer needs surgery), as well as a skin condition that has been cleared through a grain-free diet
  • Ideal home would be a house with a quiet couple and no small children or other dogs (although an older, gentle dog may be fine)
  • Sometimes gets anxious, may bark when guardians leave
  • Completely housebroken
