Montclair Art Museum’s ‘Free First Thursday’ Returns: Nov. 1
The Montclair Art Museum event includes free gen. admission, live music, art activities/tours, seasonal programming and a full-service bar.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The Montclair Art Museum (MAM) will hold its “Free First Thursday Night” on Nov. 1 from 5 to 9 p.m.
The event includes free general admission, live music, art activities and tours, seasonal programming and a full-service bar. According to the MAM, November’s event focuses on “engaging the public beyond our gallery walls, with opportunities to reflect, engage, and create.”
Visitors will be able to see work from contemporary artist Kara Walker in “Kara Walker: Virginia’s Lynch Mob and Other Works,” as well as pieces from MAM’s permanent collection in “Constructing Identity in America (1766–2017).”

The museum will offer free, docent-led tours of exhibitions at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.

“A highlight of November’s program is Open Book/ Open Mind: B.A. Shapiro in Conversation with Caroline Leavitt, in partnership with the Montclair Public Library. Award-winning, New York Times best-selling author B. A. Shapiro will debut her latest and eighth novel The Collector’s Apprentice. She will be in conversation about art, fiction and creativity with Caroline Leavitt, best-selling author of eleven fiction novels. The talk will begin at 7 p.m. Book signing to follow the program sponsored by Watchung Booksellers.”

“The New Jersey GLBT Chamber Meet Up is happening at November’s Free First Thursday Night! We encourage everyone to bring groups to Free First Thursday Nights. We ask that groups of 10 or more RSVP to thursdays@montclairartmuseum.org. In return, we'll give your group a special mention on the Free First Thursday Nights webpage.”
