Montclair Biz Damaged In Blaze Holds ‘Fire Sale’

When life gives them lemons, the enterprising make lemonade.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — When life gives them lemons, the enterprising make lemonade. And when a smoky blaze strikes their business, true entrepreneurs have a fire sale.

That’s the optimistic attitude of Power Stretch Studio, whose Montclair location suffered serious damage during a Sept. 3 fire at the building behind the Chase bank at 255 Bellevue Avenue.

As a result of the fire, Power Stretch Studio – which bills itself as an “alternative to yoga classes” - was forced to temporarily move to a location down the street at St. James Church until their original space is rebuilt, a company representative told Patch.

The studio provided some photos of the fire damage as part of an online fundraiser to help it recover, which can be seen here.

But the setback won’t stop the studio from participating in this weekend’s Upper Montclair Side Walk Sale. Power Stretch will have a “Fire Sale” outside of their damaged studio from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept 18, during which time they will offer “deeply discounted” one-on-one stretching sessions and sign up new clients.

Power Stretch Studios’ owner Hakika DuBose said that she wants to show the Montclair community that the business is still open and “going strong.”

She also wants the community to know how thankful she is for their support.

“Reverend Melissa of St. James Church opened her arms to us as soon as she heard the news,” DuBose said. “Reverend Melissa has helped me realize just how strong the Upper Montclair community is. I am grateful to be a part of it and look forward to opening in our main location again as soon as it is rebuilt.”
