Montclair-born artist Joan Criscione to Exhibit in NYC Art Show

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Montclair-born artist Joan Criscione in Forms and Formalities.

The abstract expressionist paintings of American artist Joan Criscione often elicit an immediate emotive response in the viewer. Characterized by loose forms, muted colors, and broad brushstrokes, Criscione’s paintings are more about reaching and communing with the viewer than any representational composition. Figurative elements do wind their way onto the canvas, but they are secondary to the depth of experiential emotion and human understanding conveyed in each piece.

Criscione comes from an expansive artistic background in fashion, and she holds a great love and passion for music and dance. These elements can be traced within her work, where there is a sense of dynamism, rhythm, and movement as the viewers’ eye moves from one form to the next. For Criscione, painting represents her greatest offering to the world. As she explains, “I feel I have much to give to the world by painting what is in my heart.”

Joan Criscione is the founder and former owner of an internationally renowned women’s clothing company, Criscione Designs. She currently lives and works in Boca Raton, Florida.

Forms and Formalities: A New Exhibition at Agora Gallery

Artists of all walks of life come together in the exhibition Forms and Formalities to express their inner visions, personal stories, and hopes and dreams for the future. Ranging from the highly representational to the highly abstract, the works on display encompass a great collection of exciting colors and motions. With an expert hand, these artists exercise their talents with intoxicating results. As clear subjects emerge from a haze of abstraction and emotion, we explore what we can see in art, how we come to these interpretations, and why we identify with them.
