Montclair Cemetery Tours Set For Halloween Season 2016
The Montclair Historical Society will offer walking tours of Mt. Hebron and Rosedale cemeteries.

MONTCLAIR, NJ — If you have the guts to go walking around a cemetery this Halloween, the Montclair Historical Society (MHS) has two chances for you to prove your courage.
The MHS will host walking tours of Mount Hebron and Rosedale Cemeteries for the 2016 Halloween season on Oct. 22 and 30. For additional information about either event, visit www.montclairhistorical.org, or contact the Montclair Historical Society at (973) 744-1796, or mail@montclairhistorical.org.

According to the MHS:
“Established on donated farmland from Dutch settlers in 1863, Mt. Hebron Cemetery is a 30-acre beauty on the eastern slope of First Mountain. Learn about the notable residents and family names of Speertown (Upper Montclair) and Cranetown (Montclair) as they were once known, and the secret language behind grave imagery and decoration. Please be prepared to park on Valley Road near the cemetery entrance at 851 Valley Road, Montclair, as parking within the cemetery may be limited, and meet near cemetery office. Tour led by Lisanne Renner/Historian, Friends of Anderson Park and Helen Fallon/Trustee, Montclair Historical Society. This will be an all-walking tour. October 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. Suggested donation $10, registration required to mail@montclairhistorical.org or 973-744-1796.”

ROSEDALE
According to the MHS:
“25 acres of park-like Rosedale Cemetery marks where a movement began over 150 years ago in how America took care of its deceased. We’ll find notable people buried here and their stories, and learn about the secret language of grave imagery and decoration. Led by Executive Director, Jane Eliasof and Manager of Audience Engagement, Angelica Kane. Suggested donation $10. Advanced registration required to mail@montclairhistorical.org or 973-744-1796. Tour is about 2 miles of walking. Tour will begin at the Rosedale Chapel for a brief introduction at 408 Orange Road, Montclair. October 30 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Carpooling is suggested due to limited parking on site and driving to distant parts of the cemetery.”
