Montclair Cop Is Recovering After Shooting, Woman Faces Charges
Prosecutors: A Montclair cop who was struck by gunfire has been released from the hospital, but the woman who shot him remains hospitalized.
MONTCLAIR, NJ — A Montclair police officer who was struck by gunfire on Monday has been released from the hospital, but the woman who shot him remains hospitalized, authorities said.

Prosecutors said Montclair police responded to a home on the 100-block of Forest Street at 1:09 p.m. after getting a report about someone armed with a gun. As the officers approached the residence a shooter fired at them, hitting Michael J. Medrano, 33, in the shoulder.

Another officer returned fire and struck the shooter, later identified as Maryann Swain, 39, of Montclair.
Medrano and Swain were both transported to University Hospital in Newark and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Medrano has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
Swain remains hospitalized. Once released, she will be held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark pending a court appearance, prosecutors said.
Authorities said Swain has been charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
